Extrusion Welder Maintenance: Make Your Machine Last Years
A hand extruder is a small plastics factory you hold in two hands — motor, gearbox, heater and die in one housing. Treated well, a Weldy Booster runs for years; neglected, any extruder dies young. These habits make the difference.
Daily habits
Purge before stopping. Never let material solidify in the barrel — run the machine empty of molten material before switching off. Restarting against a frozen barrel strains the motor and drive.
Respect the warm-up. Feed rod only when the machine is at temperature. Cold starts with rod in the chamber are the #1 cause of drive damage.
Keep air intakes clear. The motor cools itself; dusty site air clogs intakes — blow them out at day’s end.
Wear parts and when to change them
Carbon brushes — the motor’s consumable. Weldy kits ship with a spare set; check them every few hundred hours and replace in pairs.
Heating elements — age with thermal cycles. Falling air temperature or slow heat-up signals replacement time.
Welding shoes — dress them clean with the brass brush (included in the kit); replace when profiles wear rounded, because seam geometry depends on them.
Storage and transport
Always in the transport case, always purged, never resting on the shoe. In summer, avoid leaving machines in closed vehicles — electronics age fast at 70 °C cabin temperatures.
When something does fail
Machines bought from us are covered by our written warranty against manufacturing defects, and genuine spare parts — brushes, elements, shoes — come through our direct Weldy supply line. Message us the article number from the catalog or simply your machine model.
